Instrumentalist composers, creators of the virtuoso pieces repertoire and pianistic aspects from the point of view of accompaniment techniques in the violin-piano association
Accompaniment, represented by the entire repertoire of character and virtuoso pieces is another area of a pianist’s performance besides the solo and chamber repertoire. Usually the two areas are combined leading to a paradigm concerning the pianist’s role within the ensemble.
While from the point of view of pianistic performance the concerto and the sonata appeared during classicism, the repertoire of character pieces is closely connected to the virtuoso solo instrumentalist of the Romantic period.
Piece (Fr. pièce, Germ. Stück) is the general name for an instrumental or vocal musical composition usually character miniatures.
Considering the reduced size and the close relation between form and structure this kind of repertoire can include different types of typical or atypical musical forms of sonata, lied, rondo, scherzo, waltz, stylistically developed compared to the Classical ones alongside Romantic typical forms: nocturne, polonaise, ballad, drawing-room ballad.
